Life challenges, anxiety, disconnection, to happiness and contentment

At MindZen Psychology, we recognise that life’s challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming. People may experience periods of anxiety, low mood, stress, or a sense of feeling disconnected from themselves and others. Our aim is to provide a supportive and respectful therapeutic environment where individuals can explore their experiences and develop strategies to navigate life’s challenges.

MindZen Psychology was founded by Clinical Psychologist Tanya Wilson, who has a longstanding passion for supporting mental health and wellbeing. Tanya brings a whole-person perspective to her work, recognising the close relationship between emotional wellbeing, physical health, and life circumstances. Our approach at MindZen Psychology is centred on thoughtful, evidence-based psychological care delivered in a calm and respectful environment.

MindZen Psychology provides psychological therapy,  assessment, and dietetics and nurtition support  for adolescents, adults, and older adults (from approximately 12 years of age and older). We support people experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and other life stressors.

Located in Black Rock in Bayside Melbourne, MindZen Psychology offers in-person appointments at our Black Rock clinic, as well as secure telehealth psychology sessions for clients who prefer to attend remotely.

About our Practice

Whole-Person Wellbeing

Health and wellbeing rarely exist in isolation. Stress, burnout, sleep difficulties, nervous system dysregulation, eating patterns, energy levels, self-esteem, and physical health are often deeply interconnected. At MindZen, we recognise the importance of supporting the whole person rather than viewing concerns in isolation.

Our clinicians provide evidence-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative care tailored to each individual’s unique experiences, goals, and circumstances. Depending on a person’s needs, support may involve psychology alone or a more integrated approach that also considers factors such as nutrition, lifestyle, emotional wellbeing, and daily functioning.

How We Work Together

Ways We Support You

Psychological Counselling

MindZen Psychology provides evidence-based psychological therapy for adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing a range of concerns, including:

  • anxiety and stress
  • depression and low mood
  • trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • grief and loss
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
  • anger management
  • workplace stress and burnout
  • relationship and interpersonal difficulties

Therapy is tailored to the individual and may involve a range of evidence-based psychological approaches, including cognitive and behavioural strategies, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-informed techniques where appropriate.

Psychological Assessment

MindZen Psychology provides psychological assessments to assist individuals and families in gaining a clearer understanding of cognitive, emotional, behavioural, or learning difficulties. Assessments may include:

  • cognitive assessments
  • educational and learning assessments
  • behavioural and emotional assessments
  • pre-surgical bariatric psychological assessments
  • functional capacity assessments for NDIS applications

Feedback is provided following the assessment process to help individuals and families better understand the findings and discuss possible next steps.

Dietitian & Nutrition Support

MindZen also offers nutrition and wellbeing support for individuals experiencing concerns related to mental health, stress, burnout, emotional eating, ADHD, energy levels, routine difficulties, women’s health, and long-term wellbeing.

Nutrition support may assist individuals navigating:

  • mental health and emotional wellbeing concerns
  • emotional eating and difficult relationships with food
  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • gastrointestinal conditions including IBS, FODMAP intolerance, Coeliac Disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
  • weight management and metabolic health
  • chronic disease management, including Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol
  • women’s health concerns including PCOS, pregnancy, and gestational nutrition
  • bariatric surgery preparation and post-surgical support

Our approach is compassionate, practical, and evidence-based, with a focus on sustainable wellbeing rather than restrictive or perfectionistic approaches to health. Depending on individual needs, nutrition support may occur independently or alongside psychological care as part of a broader integrated and collaborative approach to wellbeing.

MindZen acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We acknowledge the Bunurong (Boonwurrung) people of the Kulin Nation, on whose land our clinic sits, who lived here long before us.  We pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging and any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

We recognise that wellbeing is deeply connected to County, culture, and community. First Nations peoples have always understood that healing happens through these connections.

We honour the resilience and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, whose knowledge of health and wellbeing has been carried for generations. Sovereignty was never ceded, and we all have a responsibility to listen, learn, and walk forward together with respect.
